Christopher Gherman (b. 1985), is an American artist and musician currently living in Delaware, Ohio. He studied Jazz Performance at Michigan State University from 2003 to 2006 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 2010.
A little over a decade ago I experienced a profound crisis in consciousness that has continued to impact all aspects of my life. I crave authenticity, with myself, with the world, and feel disoriented and a sense of dread when caught up in the current of society with its decorated escapism and lust for comfort and pleasure. This has led me on a journey to uncover, not what I wish or hope to be, but what I actually am with all of my conditioning, with all of my fears and distortions. It is this pilgrimage into the “what is” of ourselves and our world that fuels my artistic pursuits.
I therefore find myself drawn to portray people that convey a deep sense of discomfort in this society yet a profound dignity and passion for life that refuses to be quelled and forgotten.
